So Apparently Female Viagra Doesn’t Really Work

Addyi doesn't work

Bad news for the boudoir: According to a new study, the hotly anticipated “female Viagra” doesn’t actually work. #Fail.

Addyi, the drug approved by the FDA late last year, made major promises to premenopausal women dealing with a hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD), a.k.a. a low libido. But according to a review of results published in JAMA Internal Medicine, the pills deliver mediocre results at best.

Researchers in the Netherlands analyzed eight clinical trials (three of which haven’t been published yet) of Addyi (which also goes by it’s clinical name, flibanserin), involving almost 6,000 women. And what they concluded was massively underwhelming.

Most women involved in the trials didn’t report an enhanced sex life, nor did they report having more frequent friskiness. Which is sort of the whole point of the drug that was such a BFD a few months ago.

On average, they found that women using the medication only had .5 more satisfying sexual encounters per month. (Question: What's half an encounter?) Bonus: They actually experienced more dizziness, nausea, and fatigue, which are major lady-boner killers in the first place.

Addyi is the first treatment for women dealing with HSDD, and since these findings are eliciting a collective “womp” from the scientific community, it may be back to the drawing board.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

In the meantime, you might be game to try out more au naturale remedies or check out the habits of women who orgasm all the freaking time for some pointers.
